The Future Planning and Resilience 2025/26 fourth quarter progress report on the directorate and department's performance will be presented for information.
The Future Planning and Resilience Directorate is part of the City of Cape Town's administration. It covers long-term spatial planning, urban growth management, environmental and climate resilience, and the city's strategic response to risks such as drought, flooding, and energy and water insecurity. The City usually places spatial development, environmental management, and resilience-related work in this area. Examples include the Municipal Spatial Development Framework, the Built Environment Performance Plan, and climate change and biodiversity programmes. I could not retrieve current web sources, so this description comes from general knowledge and may be out of date.
A quarterly progress report like this one is part of South African municipal performance management. The Municipal Systems Act (2000) and the Municipal Finance Management Act (2003) require municipalities to track delivery against the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and the annual Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP). The fourth-quarter report covers April to June 2026, so it closes out the 2025/26 financial year. It shows whether the directorate met its annual targets. Its results also feed into the City's Annual Report and its oversight process.
The report matters to residents because it shows how well the City delivers on long-term planning. That planning affects housing and land-use decisions, infrastructure readiness, and climate adaptation. The item is "for information", so councillors are not asked to vote on it. It still gives the public a way to check performance and hold the City to account. The full report should be in the council agenda documents on the City of Cape Town website.
