The Urban Mobility Portfolio Committee annual report for the period 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026 will be presented to Council.
The Urban Mobility Portfolio Committee is a committee of Council. It was established under section 79 of the Municipal Structures Act. Council created it on 15 December 2021. Its terms of reference say it oversees transport strategy and makes recommendations to Council. They also say it should recommend its annual report for approval. The report covers 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026. It is therefore an accountability document summarising the committee's oversight work for the year.
The committee oversees the Urban Mobility Directorate. The directorate's stated aim is an efficient mobility network for public and private transport, including pedestrians and cyclists. Councillor Roberto Quintas is the Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility. His mandate includes restoring the N2 Express and Mitchells Plain link on the MyCiTi bus system and delivering a multi-billion rand MyCiTi expansion. Those commitments are likely benchmarks for the year's performance.
Planning is also under way. The Comprehensive Integrated Transport Plan (CITP 2023-2028) sets the City's long-term transport vision and guides the directorate's priorities. A draft 2026 update to the CITP is open for public comment until 30 September 2026. The City also recently held an Urban Mobility Summit during Transport Month. It brought together government, business and civil society to discuss transport and mobility challenges.
For residents, the report shows how oversight of public transport, roads and mobility spending was carried out. Committee agendas, reports and minutes are published on the City's website under Council meeting calendars.
